Virgin Voyages has kicked off 2023 – the same year one of its ships arrives for the first time in Australian waters – with a catchy music video that is sure to have you singing along.
The video, directed by creative visionary Jonas Åkerlund, centres around a modern adaptation of Culture Club’s karaoke classic ‘Karma Chameleon’ performed by Drew Love from hit band THEY. The song was chosen to mark 40 years since Boy George first performed the track, itself originally released by Virgin Records.
Featuring footage captured on Virgin Voyages’ first ship, Scarlet Lady, the video coincides with the launch of the line’s 2023 brand campaign entitled ‘Now We’re Voyaging’.
Starring real-life cruisers and crew, viewers are taken on a 24-hour journey showcasing what life is like onboard, with guest activities including sunset yoga and the energetic adults-only lifestyle.
Åkerlund’s portfolio includes a litany of music documentaries including Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ World Tour and Paul McCartney’s ‘Live Kisses’ music video, which won a Grammy Award in 2014 for Best Music Film.

“We have won the hearts and minds of hundreds of thousands of sailors who have fallen in love with Virgin Voyages because we created an experience everybody could love,” said Virgin Voyages Chief Brand Officer, Nathan Rosenberg.
“As we continue to showcase our ships to the world, we wanted to share what it’s like onboard based on what our sailors have told us and shared on social. It features real crew as well and is a celebration of travel and Voyaging. The Voyage music video shows this in such a unique and relatable way, from a quiet and restorative feeling to a dreamy, curious and energetic state.”
In 2023, Virgin Voyages will take delivery of Resilient Lady and Brilliant Lady, its final two ships (for now at least) which will take its fleet to four alongside Scarlet Lady and Valiant Lady.
