Viking has announced an array of new ships, itineraries, and destinations as it opens bookings for its highly anticipated 2027 season. With a robust expansion of its river and ocean fleets and a series of captivating new voyages, Viking continues to deliver travel experiences across the globe.
Expansion of River Fleet
Viking will welcome 17 new Viking Longships to its European river fleet, catering to the growing demand on popular rivers such as the Rhine, Main, Danube, and Seine. Of these, five ships will launch in 2025, including the Viking Annar, Viking Dagur, Viking Honir, and Viking Eldir on the Rhine, Main, and Danube, and the 168-guest Viking Nerthus on the Seine.
In Portugal, the Viking Gyda will join the fleet in 2025, bringing the total number of ships on the Douro River to five, making Viking one of the largest and most elegant operators in the region.
Expanding its footprint in Egypt, Viking will add four more 82-guest sister ships on the Nile by 2026, supporting the increasingly popular 12-day *Pharaohs & Pyramids* itinerary.
The Southeast Asia river fleet will also see the addition of the new 80-guest Viking Tonle, debuting in 2025. This vessel, designed specifically for the Mekong River, will sail between Cambodia and Vietnam as part of the 15-day Magnificent Mekong itinerary.
New River Itineraries
For the 2027 season, Viking has introduced a collection of captivating river journeys. The 11-day *Rhine & Main Explorer* will take guests through the cultural and historic towns of Germany, Switzerland, and France, while the 11-day *Christmas on the Rhine & Main* itinerary will celebrate European Christmas traditions along two of the continent’s most iconic rivers.
A standout addition is the 12-day *Total Eclipse on the Nile* voyage, which offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness a solar eclipse in Egypt on 2 August 2027, with an onboard astronomer providing insights into the significance of astronomy in ancient Egypt.
New Mississippi River Journeys
Viking is launching five new itineraries on the Mississippi River, including the 8-day *Heartland of America*, 15-day The Big Easy to the Gateway City, and the extensive 22-day Mississippi River Odyssey. These itineraries delve into the rich music, history, and culinary traditions of America’s vibrant heartland.
For 2026, Viking will add two more itineraries: the 8-day *Nashville, Memphis & the Cumberland* and the 11-day New Orleans to Memphis, offering guests a deeper exploration of the sounds, flavours, and historical landmarks of the American South.
Ocean Fleet Expansion
Viking’s ocean fleet will expand with the addition of the Viking Vesta in late 2025, followed by the Viking Mira in 2026. These sister ships will bring Viking’s ocean fleet to 12 vessels, each boasting 499 staterooms and hosting up to 998 guests. The ships will sail across the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, and beyond.
New Ocean Itineraries
Highlights include the 15-day *Mediterranean & Adriatic Odyssey*, visiting lesser-known ports along the Adriatic coast, and the 20-day *Iberian & Mediterranean Odyssey*, sailing between London and Venice and exploring iconic cultural capitals such as Florence and Rome.
Viking has also announced its expansion into China and Japan with six new itineraries commencing from September 2025, including the 15-day *Jewels of Japan & China* voyage and the 22-day *Wonders of China*, offering exclusive access to lesser-known ports in China.
Inaugural Grand Australia Circumnavigation
Viking will debut its 32-day Grand Australia Circumnavigation in January 2025 aboard the Viking Venus, offering an unparalleled voyage around the continent. Guests will have the chance to explore Australia’s iconic cities and remote coastal towns, as well as visiting Indonesia’s Komodo Island and Bali.
New Arctic Expeditions
For those seeking an adventure to the polar north, Viking has unveiled three new Arctic itineraries exploring Canada and Greenland. The 13-day *Into the Northwest Passage* expedition, the 15-day *Canada & Greenland Explorer*, and the extended 27-day *Canada & the Northwest Passage* will allow guests to discover the awe-inspiring landscapes and unique cultures of the Arctic Circle.
For the truly intrepid traveller, the 87-day *From the Arctic to Antarctica* expedition will combine six itineraries, offering a once-in-a-lifetime journey from the icy landscapes of Greenland to the dramatic wilderness of Antarctica.
