BATTLEFIELD PILGRIMS can now book their trip to mark a poignant wartime anniversary in Australia’s history.
February 19, 1942, marked the first of at least 64 air raids on Darwin in the Top End of Australia which continued for 18 months until November 1943 during the Pacific War.
More than 260 enemy aircraft were involved in the bombings, killing more than 250 Allied service personnel and civilians, significantly damaging the city and sinking watercraft.
Mat McLachlan Battlefield Tours have just released their five-day 2024 Anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin’ tour, which will depart on February 16 next year.
Tour highlights include a special night-time experience at the Darwin Military Museum, Sea Darwin Bombing of Darwin Cruise’ taking in Darwin’s Second World War maritime sites and a walk through the Oil Tunnels.
Guests will also explore off-the-beaten track sites such as the wartime airfields, Snake Creek explosives storage dump and Adelaide River and War Cemetery.
Also included is attendance at the Bombing of Darwin Anniversary Commemorative Service, plus visits to key sites such as Stokes Hill, Fort Hill, Doctor’s Gully, Christ Cathedral, the Darwin Aviation Museum and the Royal Flying Doctor Museum.
The tour is priced from $2,099 per person twin share.
