The new cookbook Food Trail South Africa was launched last night at a star-studded event at Meat & Co, Safari in Sydney.

Hosted by South African Tourism, the gathering saw celebrity chefs turning out in support of chef Warren Mendes, the book’s author and star of the TV show of the same name, which is set to begin filming its third season in the new year.

Matt Preston introduced Warren, playfully referring to him as Timon from The Lion King—”always enthusiastic, full of energy, full of ideas, and always eager to learn.” He described the cookbook as “an absolute ripper.”

On the launch of the book, Warren said “As a proud South African, I am thrilled to be able to bring part of the country’s colourful culture to an international audience. Food Trail South Africa dives beyond the TV series to give readers more of a taste of what South African cuisine has to offer and discover more of the secrets from the kitchen and beyond.”

“It was a privilege to meet so many wonderful people and visit so many amazing places in South Africa while making this book with each and every person and community contributing to unlocking the vibrant flavours and ideas behind every dish.”

The book is packed with delicious South African recipes, complemented by stunning photography that captures the people and places Warren encountered on his journey. Dishes include Koesisters (spiced doughnuts), Koeksisters (indulgent plaited pastries), Boerewors sausage rolls, Tamarind salmon curry, Roti, Milk tart, and much more.

Traveltalk is excited to announce that we will be giving away 10 copies of Food Trail South Africa. Keep an eye out for the competition starting next week!
