WHEN YOU’VE sold more than eight million albums, won countless music awards and been given the Order of Australia, it takes a pretty special moment to be deemed a career highlight.
But for Delta Goodrem, performing Waltzing Matilda on the bow of Queen Elizabeth as she sailed into Sydney Harbour was just such an occasion.
It was an emotional moment all round as Cunard marked their return to Australian waters for the first time since the pandemic.
Delta played the piano for the special performance, accompanied by a string quartet and flanked by Cunard officers and bellboys in their specially crafted Australian uniforms.
“I’ve performed in many locations around the world but performing on the bow of Queen Elizabeth as she sailed through Sydney Harbour was one of my highlights!” said Delta.
“As we neared the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, performing Waltzing Matilda was truly a magical moment.”
Queen Elizabeth is the second largest ship to sail in Cunard’s fleet, home to more than 2,000 guests and 1,000 crew. She features more than 10 restaurants and cafés, games deck, two-storey library, a ballroom and the Royal Court Theatre.
Delta’s performance can be viewed as part of a Cunard TV commercial running on YouTube for three months.
