Qatar Airways has made a cash donation of AUD$80,000 to today’s Good Friday Appeal, raising critical funds for The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) in Melbourne and its expanded regional efforts. The airline also contributed two Business Class return flights to Europe on the World’s Best Business class as awarded by the 2023 Skytrax World Airline Awards, for the annual fundraiser. This marks the fourth year in a row that the airline is supporting the initiative.
The Good Friday Appeal brings all sectors of the community together each year to help The Royal Children’s Hospital provide essential medical care for kids. The annual fundraising event culminates in a telethon every Good Friday. Qatar Airways’ team members based at the airline’s Australian headquarters in Melbourne will also be volunteering their time on the day for Kids Day Out and taking calls from donors during the telethon.
Qatar Airways Regional Manager for Australia and New Zealand, Mr Justin Kestel said: “We are proud to continue our long-lasting support for the Good Friday Appeal. Since 2020, Qatar Airways have and will continue to donate to this great cause. Good Friday Appeal aligns with our global corporate social responsibility of supporting Children and making their lives better so that they have the best possible outcomes in life.”
Since its inception in 1931, the Good Friday Appeal has entailed a total of $444 million in donations to The Royal Children’s Hospital, and has been instrumental in ensuring optimal care for young patients and their families. Good Friday Appeal now also takes The Royal Children’s Hospital excellence into the regions to support regional paediatric health services – Barwon Health, Bendigo Health, Grampians Health, Goulburn Valley Health, Albury Wodonga Health and Latrobe Regional Health.
The contributions have been allocated towards various initiatives, including medical research, advanced equipment and technology, programs focused on patient and family-centred care, and the promotion of staff excellence through educational programs, scholarships, and fellowships.
