The Port of Eden is set to host one of the world’s largest cruise ships tomorrow, as the 348-metre, 168,666-tonne Ovation of the Seas makes its maiden arrival at Snug Cove. Carrying a record-breaking 4,862 passengers, the ship’s visit will offer travellers the chance to experience the breathtaking sights and vibrant atmosphere of the Sapphire Coast.

Ovation of the Seas’ arrival at Eden Cruise Wharf follows the NSW Government’s recent planning modification, which now allows ships up to 370 metres long to berth in Eden, further cementing the port’s status as a key destination for international cruise tourism.

This summer cruise season, Eden will welcome 25 ships, including 12 making their maiden call, bringing an estimated 40,000 passengers and 20,000 crew—a significant economic boost for local businesses.

Port Authority Acting Chief Executive Officer John McKenna highlighted the significance of Ovation of the Seas’ visit:

“This marks an exciting new era for regional cruise tourism, with some of the world’s largest cruise ships now able to include Eden on their itineraries. NSW continues to lead the way as Australia’s cruise capital.

“The arrival of Ovation of the Seas is the result of strong collaboration between the local community, businesses, and stakeholders, alongside the NSW Government’s planning modifications. This development allows Port Authority to welcome thousands more passengers each year, generating valuable economic benefits for the region.

“Our expert marine pilots and operations teams play a crucial role in safely bringing these larger vessels into port, ensuring a seamless start to exploring this stunning coastline.”

A Major Boost for Eden and the Sapphire Coast
Port Authority General Manager of Cruise, Martin Bidgood, emphasised the positive impact on local businesses and tourism:

“With thousands of visitors stepping ashore, cruise tourism will bring widespread benefits to the entire Sapphire Coast region.

“Ovation of the Seas’ arrival will deliver a major boost to Eden, driving increased trade for cafés, retailers, tour operators, and local attractions.

“Eden is firmly on the map as a must-visit cruise destination. This visit is an incredible opportunity to showcase our stunning coastline, rich history, and the warm hospitality of the South Coast to thousands of new visitors.”

As Eden continues to grow as a premier cruise destination, the arrival of Ovation of the Seas signals a bright future for regional tourism and local businesses alike.
