Emergency services have launched a search in the waters off Sydney after a person was reported to have gone overboard from the Pacific Adventure in the early hours of Monday morning.

The alarm was reportedly raised onboard the ship at about 4am, approximately 10 nautical miles from Sydney Heads. 

The ship, which was due to dock at White Bay Terminal later in the morning, but its arrival has been delayed.

It’s believed there are more than 2,600 guests still on board. 

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s Joint Rescue Coordination Centre confirmed the Pacific Adventure had remained at the location as part of the search.

A spokesperson for the cruise line said the family of the missing person were receiving support from staff.
