Two nights at The Mysa Motel on the Gold Coast

AND

a pass for a two on a Brisbane Local Sauce Tour of your choice.

For those seeking a getaway with undeniable visual charm, The Mysa Motel (pronounced Mee-sa) offers a private oasis on Queensland’s Gold Coast, brimming with vintage vibes and all the amenities for a truly memorable stay.

Recently revived after an ambitious two-year renovation, The Mysa Motel presents a unique take on mid-century motels, blending 1960s design flair with modern comfort and thoughtful functionality. Situated in Palm Beach, the Gold Coast’s up-and-coming trendy neighbourhood known for its lively dining and nightlife, this retro-inspired haven is the creation of local couple Jase and Eliza, who transformed the former Palm Trees Motel into a celebration of the region’s heritage, vibrant colour, and utilitarian design.

Stepping through The Mysa’s pastel-coloured doors, guests are immersed in an aesthetic reminiscent of classic road trip motels, but with a striking modern twist. In restoring the original façade and preserving elements like the exposed hardwood ceiling trusses, repurposed for the carport and function area, Jase and Eliza have crafted a space that feels nostalgic yet refreshingly current. Every corner of the property, from its signature neon sign to the colourful mid-century furnishings, has been carefully considered to embody a vision where past meets present.

At the heart of The Mysa experience is its seven uniquely designed rooms, each telling its own story. Local photographer Trent Mitchell’s nostalgic Gold Coast prints line the walls, while vibrant, colour-themed décor adds personality to each room – “Lilac Affair,” for example, is a dreamy homage to purple, while “Koi” dazzles in butter yellow. Custom oak cabinetry, matte-black accents, and tactile details like TileCloud’s handcrafted bedheads create an interior design that feels both elevated and deeply welcoming.

For Jase and Eliza, design and functionality go hand-in-hand. Inspired by the Swedish word mysa, meaning “cosy,” they focused on creating a relaxing space with all the comforts of home. Blockout blinds, USB charging points, Australian Asthma Foundation-approved beds, and silent fridges ensure guests can unwind with ease. Keyless entry through individual pin codes adds a modern, self-serviced convenience, letting guests settle in at their own pace.

The Mysa Motel’s standout retro charm and functional amenities also make it an attractive option for exclusive hire, perfect for private events, micro-celebrations, or group gatherings with style. Beyond the rooms, the motel’s secure, pin-code-accessed premises and flexible undercover carport space can be adapted for everything from relaxed poolside picnics to larger evening soirées. And with access to the Splash Club’s magnesium pool, loungers, and shaded picnic tables, the motel is a versatile venue that enhances any celebration or group stay.

As the Gold Coast’s first boutique sustainable motel, The Mysa also reflects a commitment to eco-conscious hospitality. Solar power fuels the entire property, while rainwater tanks nourish the gardens and bathrooms, preserving resources while honouring the natural surroundings. This ethos of low-impact design aligns with Jase and Eliza’s vision to offer a travel experience that’s beautiful, functional, and respectful of its environment.

From vibrant, nostalgic design touches to a functional, detail-oriented approach to guest comfort, The Mysa Motel truly sets itself apart as more than just a place to stay. It’s a place to unwind, reconnect, and celebrate the best of old-school charm with a fresh, modern sensibility – whether for a memorable weekend escape, a special family reunion, or an inspired corporate retreat.

Brisbane Launch of Local Sauce Tours’ Award-Winning Urban Culture Tours

Brisbane boy, Justin Steele returns to his hometown to launch his award-winning cultural experiences by Local Sauce Tours from Friday, 25 October. Showcasing the city’s nightlife, laneways, public art and lesser-known stories of Brisbane’s history, tours are designed to appeal to both locals and visitors.
Local Sauce Tours launched in Sydney in 2018 and, in a highly competitive market, quickly became one of Sydney’s leading experiences. Justin notably achieved: Gold Award for Cultural Tourism in the NSW Tourism Awards in 2022 and 2023; #1 ranking for ‘Tours in Sydney’ and ‘Sydney Nightlife’ on Tripadvisor; and more than 2,000 five-star online reviews.
“As a Brisbane native, I’m so excited to bring our brand of fun, youthful and informative small-group experiences to Brissie. The city has grown so much since I last lived here, with world-class small bars, a thriving street art scene and amazing public art making the city more vibrant for both visitors and locals. I’ve been sharing the stories of Sydney’s culture, history and art (and winning awards for it) for almost eight years, now it is time to put the spotlight on my hometown,” said Justin.
The two new Brisbane tours include:

Brisbane Small Bars & Street Art

Over three hours, guests will experience Brisbane’s vibrant nightlife, visiting three speakeasy style small bars, and discover the city’s incredible street art with an expert guide. The Thursday itinerary starts in the city and heads across to South Brisbane and West End. The slightly more bar focused itinerary on Saturday evenings stays in the city centre. See murals by some of Australia’s most famous and talented artists, and learn about street art culture.
Ultimate Brisbane Walking Tour

Ideal for visitors and locals who want to go deeper into learning about Brisbane’s history, culture, and First Nations people. An expert guide will provide a range of perspectives on Brisbane’s development – from tough penal colony origins, to ‘colourful’ leaders, and more recent transformations. The tour ends with a drink at a popular spot overlooking Brisbane River.

Charismatic and passionate guides entertain guests throughout the experience with their impressive local knowledge and stories. Guests receive a map with all the places visited after the tour, plus recommendations on extra spots to check out. Tour pics can be shared via an online group.

With small groups of up to 12 people, tours are perfect for domestic and international visitors and solo travellers, or locals looking to make friends and explore their own backyard. Private tours can be booked for visiting groups, corporate events or special occasions.
