Mat McLachlan is a battlefield historian who has been walking in the footsteps of the Anzacs for over two decades. He is the author of leading battlefield guidebooks to Gallipoli and the Western Front, and his book ‘The Cowra Breakout’ explored the WW2 land battle that took place in Cowra, Australia on 5 August 1944. Mat is currently finalising his next book, ‘Krithia: the forgotten Anzac battle of Gallipoli’, anticipated to hit bookshops mid-year.

As the founder and presenter of Mat McLachlan’s Living History, Mat presents free YouTube history documentaries and podcasts. To commemorate Anzac Day 2025, Mat teamed up with leading British battlefield historian, Peter Hart, to present a special 8-part Gallipoli podcast series – the first episodes are available now on all streaming platforms.
