Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), the innovator in global cruise travel, joined forces with Take 3 for the Sea on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at North Steyne Beach and Park in Manly to participate in a beach cleanup event in honour of International Volunteer Day.
Over 30 minutes, the NCL team collected 1,070 pieces of rubbish, totalling 2.2 kilograms. The collected debris included 412 cigarette butts, 147 pieces of plastic food packaging, and over 150 fragments of solid plastic, primarily microplastics that had broken apart over time.
The cleanup event provided an opportunity for participants to contribute directly to addressing plastic pollution while enhancing their awareness of the environmental challenges faced by marine ecosystems.
NCL’s involvement highlights its ongoing commitment to sustainability and ocean preservation through active participation in community-focused initiatives.
“I was so surprised by the amount of small rubbish hiding in plain sight,” Jordan Dryland, Sales Coordinator at NCL AU/NZ said. “This was such a great learning experience today with Take 3, who are such a great movement!”
William Karrfi, Guest Services at NCL AU/NZ added: “It was a very eye-opening experience. I learnt today how much plastic pollution there actually is.”
