The campaign to name Hawke’s Bay Airport’s new fire truck has ignited the imagination of locals with more than 1500 entries received.
We have been thrilled by the community response, says Judi Godbold, Business Development Manager, Hawke’s Bay Airport.
“Locals have really got in behind naming the new fire truck; there’s been some really clever and inspirational entries.”
Some of the more popular entries included: Flick x 66 (including Big Flick, Little Flick, Flik & Flick), 53 Rosies, and despite the fact that the airport was clear that Trucky McTruck Face wasn’t going to cut the mustard, there were 17 Squirty McSquirt Faces, 8 Trucky McTrucky Faces and 3 Firetruck McTruck Faces, as well as 7 Arnies or Arnolds, and 4 Hosés.
Judi Godbold says with entries closed, the mayors of Napier and Hastings Kirsten Wise and Sandra Hazlehurst, local MP Katie Nimon, Airport Chair Wendie Harvey, Greg Smith Hawke’s Bay Manager Air New Zealand, and the airport’s Airside Safety and Security Manager Damian Corbett have chosen their favourite name, creating a shortlist of five that the public can now vote on.

“The public can now vote for their favourite via the Airport’s website, which will display a real time scoreboard tallying the votes,” she says.
Voting closes on Friday 13 September, and the winning name will be announced shortly after, along with the winner of the naming competition who will receive a $500 travel voucher.
