The Holy Father will depart on 2 September at 5:15 p.m. from Rome Fiumicino Airport to Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, travelling with ITA Airways.
ITA Airways has chosen the Airbus A330neo to transport the Holy Father. Equipped with innovative technologies, this Airbus is lighter, more efficient and quieter, facilitating a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions per passenger compared to aircraft from the previous generation.
As is customary, the flight will depart from Leonardo da Vinci Airport’s Terminal 5, with landing scheduled at 11:30 am local time.
Welcoming the Holy Father on board at Fiumicino Airport will be Antonino Turicchi, Chairman of ITA Airways, Andrea Benassi, General Manager of ITA Airways and Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer of ITA Airways and CEO of Volare. The flight supervisor will be Commander Massimiliano Marselli, who has 18,000 flight hours of experience. The entire crew will consist of 13 people, including 3 pilots and 10 flight attendants, joined by the ITA Airways team dedicated to special flights. As is customary, in addition to the Papal Entourage, representatives of the Italian and international press will travel with Pope Francis.
It is an honour and a source of great pride for ITA Airways to accompany the Holy Father on his Apostolic Journey.
ITA Airways has prepared a flight-plan that includes efficient operational procedures, the use of SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) for an amount equal to 0.5 percent of the refueling needed for flights, and the full offsetting of emissions that cannot be eliminated through participation in a Gold Standard certified CO2 reduction project.
