Keen to see an old favourite in a new light? Or want to zag where others zig and explore different parts of the world? Either way, a whole new range of options awaits.

Craft your own signature scent in Japan

If the scenic setting of Takayama, an Edo period town in the Japanese Alps, wasn’t enough already, travellers on the 13-day ‘Japan: Land of the Rising Sun’ trip can now capture the memory through crafting their own incense.

After a visit to a local sake brewery (and a taste of the region’s prized signature drop), travellers will head to Zenkoji Temple to learn how to make incense, which is believed to have purifying qualities.

They can create their own original scent by mixing six to seven types of fragrant woods, with the end resulting being completely unique.

Lend elephants a helping hand in Borneo

On the 10-day ‘Borneo Family Holiday Comfort’, travellers will now take a cruise down the Kinabatangan to see the many creatures that call this river and its banks home, including monkeys, gibbons, macaques and maybe even pygmy elephants.

That afternoon, pop in to visit Intrepid Foundation partner RESPECT (Responsible Elephant Conservation Trust) to learn about the work they’re doing to protect those pygmy elephants and help out by planting important napier grass to counteract threats of habitat loss.

See a quieter side of the Southern Balkans

Eighteen to 35s can now hit up Himare, a brand-new location for Intrepid, on the nine-day ‘Essential Southern Balkans’ trip.

Expect fewer travellers in this part of Albania, meaning more space to explore the beautiful beaches. Check out this coastal town by boat and stop off at caves only accessible via water.

After two days relaxing by the sea, travellers can get a culture fix during a visit to traditional tower houses and local coffee spots ‘on the stone’ in Gjirokaster.

Dine at a women-led restaurant in South India

Watching the sun set on the Kerala backwaters is an incredible way to end a day, but a new addition to the nine-day ‘Classic South India’ trip is the perfect finishing touch.

Travellers will join their group for a dinner at a restaurant that provides employment and training to local women, where there’s the chance to try traditional dishes like fish curry, meen pollichathu (fish marinated with spices and wrapped in banana leaves) and avial (a vegetable dish with coconut). It’s a meal that’ll fill both body and soul!

Pitch a tent on one of Australia’s most remote beaches

Few travellers make it to the top of Australia’s mainland – but the new 11-day ‘Cape York & Torres Strait Explorer’ trip can take them there.

Journey to (very) Far North Queensland – one of Australia’s most remote and unique locations – and learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture while exploring rainforest and savanna woodlands.

Travellers will spend a night on Chilli Beach within Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) National Park – just one of many epic camping spots on this trip.
