Intrepid Travel, the globally renowned leader in responsible travel, has taken its storytelling prowess to the next level with the launch of a new series of experience-led guidebooks, now available online and in leading bookstores.

The first instalment in the Intrepid Guides collection features three inspiring destinations: Australia, Japan and Iceland.

Far from your traditional destination guides, these books are designed to immerse readers in unforgettable activities that foster genuine connections with people and places, while championing sustainable and ethical travel.

From travelling coast to coast on Australia’s legendary transcontinental train, to tasting sushi straight from Japan’s bustling fish markets, or discovering Iceland’s dramatic waterfalls, the guides are packed with authentic experiences that encourage travellers to go beyond the usual tourist trail.

This fresh series builds on the success of The Intrepid List, released in 2024, which showcased more than 100 unique global travel experiences and marked the first phase of Intrepid’s publishing partnership with Hardie Grant Explore.

The new collection continues the brand’s mission to drive positive change through meaningful storytelling.

Brett Mitchell, Managing Director of Intrepid Travel ANZ, said the Australia guide is a celebration of both new discoveries and well-loved classics viewed through a different lens.

“Our Australia guide will inspire travellers to explore new spots and see the classics in a whole new light. It’s also a reflection of Intrepid’s commitment to showcasing and hero-ing Australia, encouraging responsible travel, and helping travellers connect with local communities in a meaningful way.

“The Australia guide includes a visit to glowing ghost mushrooms; viewing the great cuttlefish migration; playing the world’s longest golf course; exploring the world’s greatest concentration of rock art; and experiencing the First Nations light festival, Parrtjima.”

The guides follow a thematic format, with chapters covering Nature, Wildlife, Activities & Sports, Festivals & Events, Food & Drink, History, Architecture, Art & Culture, Slow Travel and Responsible Travel.

Natalie Placko, Intrepid’s Global Brand Director, said the guides were designed for travellers looking to experience destinations in a deeper and more conscious way.

“Intrepid Guides are for the intrepid traveller — those that have a curiosity to see the world in a more meaningful way,” she added.

“We believe that travel is more than just seeing the world, it’s about experiencing it. Through authentic experiences and memorable moments, we hope to inspire travellers to explore some of the world’s most popular destinations in a responsible way and connect with the people and places they visit.”

With more than 35 years of expertise and trips operating in over 100 countries, Intrepid plans to expand the series later this year with the release of guides for Vietnam and Italy.

The Intrepid Guides are now available in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Canada and the U.S., priced at AU$39.99 / NZ$44.99.

Whether you’re a curious adventurer or a conscious traveller seeking deeper stories and experiences, the new Intrepid Guides offer the perfect companion for your next journey.
