The architecture of the 195-room hotel is based upon a M?ori wharenui (house) to be a place of gathering that brings families and communities together, whilst the hotel’s double-layered exterior echoes a M?ori cloak. The elegant interiors feature M?ori artwork specially created by local Kiwi artisans for Park Hyatt Auckland.
The check-in experience is both friendly and efficient. Impressively, we received our room key immediately upon arrival at 9:00 AM. Our sixth-floor room boasted floor-to-ceiling windows, offering an uninterrupted view across the harbour. Furnished with two queen-sized beds, day beds, and a table with chairs, the room’s inviting comfort, coupled with breathtaking views, made it a delightful retreat.
A unique feature of the room was its expansive bathroom facilities, including a full-size separate shower room, bathroom, and a distinct toilet room, together occupying almost as much space as the bedroom itself.
Not one, but two bathroomsHowever, the relaxing ambiance extends beyond the room. The hotel’s spa features a 25-meter infinity pool, Himalayan salt sauna, aromatherapy steam room, and a hydrotherapy area, providing guests with a comprehensive wellness experience.
Dining at the hotel’s main restaurant, Onemata, is an adventure in itself. The name, meaning ‘rich fertile soil,’ reflects the chef’s commitment to using seasonal, sustainably-sourced ingredients. Onemata’s menu is a celebration of New Zealand’s diverse flavors, ranging from the expected seafood and steak to Asian-inspired dishes, pâté, and salads. Breakfast at Onemata is a mix of continental buffet options and à la carte dishes, ensuring a satisfying start to the day.
If you do manage to tear yourself away from the hotel, the location of the Park Hyatt make it the perfect spot for exploring Auckland. There are plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance and the airport is a thirty minute drive away.
