Heartbreaking images have emerged from the Canadian town of Jasper, showing the extent of damage caused by wildfires which swept through the area in the past week.

An estimated 25,000 people had to evacuate from the popular Alberta town.

It’s reported that at least half of the buildings in the area have been destroyed.

The image above shows Maligne Lodge as it appears in many brochures. Next to it, an image of the property fully ablaze.

Luckily, no deaths have been reported, but 20,000 tourists and 5,000 residents were forced to flee the popular tourist destination.

Authorities in Jasper National Park said 358 of the 1,113 structures in the town had been destroyed.
