The new King Charles banknotes have arrived down under this week, with Travelex, Australia’s market leading foreign exchange brand, receiving the first arrival of the new £5 and £50 notes.
The new King Charles notes were first issued in the UK on 5th June. Coming in denominations of £5, £10, £20 and £50, they remain loyal to the existing notes’ design, except for the King’s portrait replacing that of Queen Elizabeth II. The engraving of King Charles is based on a picture taken in 2013, and, unlike the notes of his mother’s reign, the King is not wearing a crown.
Travelex will have the new notes at a handful of select stores across the country, available for customers to exchange, with Travelex’s Queen Victoria Building and Bondi Junction the very first in Australia to offer the notes on Wednesday 12th June.
The new notes will then be available at Travelex’s Brisbane Adelaide Street store, Melbourne’s Highpoint store, Doncaster’s Westfield store and Adelaide Airport store on Thursday June 13th. Travelex’s Adelaide Rundle Mall store, Perth’s Joondalup’s store and Morley’s Galleria store will stock the notes from Friday, June 14th.
The old notes featuring Queen Elizabeth II will remain legal tender, and in line with guidance from the royal household, the new notes will only be printed to replace those that are worn, and to meet any overall increase in demand.
