Three in four travellers (76%) say they avoid friends who don’t pay their share, and most (74%) prefer to split costs evenly rather than alternating payments. Young travellers aged 18–34 are also far more likely to share a hotel room to save cash, with a whopping 91% happy to bunk up compared to 65% of travellers over 65.
But it’s not just about the money. The ideal travel buddy is someone who shares your interests (78%), gets along well even during long stretches together (71%), has a similar travel budget (58%) and can communicate clearly (42%).
