Dramatic images of a landing at Wellington Airport in New Zealand were streamed live on Sunday, as emergency services rushed to the runway.

An ATR-72 aircraft flying to the capital city from the South Island was just moments from touching down when thick smoke began billowing from one of its engines.

“Just after 4pm this afternoon NZ5366 travelling from Christchurch to Wellington landed safely after smoke was seen coming from the engine. The aircraft was met by emergency services and all passengers have disembarked safely. The cause of the incident is not yet known. We expect some disruptions to flights in Wellington as a result,” an airline spokesperson told Traveltalk.

The action was streamed live on popular YouTube channel, Wellington Flights Live.  The appearance of the channel’s mascot, dog Romeo has also become somewhat of a meme online.

Passengers them jumped from the aircraft’s emergency doors onto the tarmac.

No one was injured in the incident, and an investigation is underway.
