At least 30 people have been injured by severe turbulence on a flight from Madrid to Montevideo.

The Europa Boeing 787-9 operating Flight UX-45 was flying at 36,000 feet over the Atlantic ocean when the turbulence incident happened.

The flight diverted to Natal and landed without futher incident.

There were a total of 345 people on board the flight.

Natal’s State Department of Public Health confirmed 30 people were treated for injuries and were taken to hospital, 15 ambulances met the flight at the airport when it landed.

One video online shows a passenger being rescued from an overhead luggage compartment following the incident.
