In the week following Boxing Day, Australians embraced the holiday spirit by snapping up travel deals, leading to a 106% surge in domestic trip bookings for January and February according to data from Webjet.
A staggering 87% of these bookings were scheduled for January, highlighting a strong desire to kick off the new year with a getaway.
Top domestic destinations for the remainder of summer reflect Australians’ love for diverse experiences, with Melbourne leading the pack (19%), followed by Sydney (16%), Brisbane (14%), and the Gold Coast (10%). Other popular spots include Perth (8%), Adelaide (6%), and Hobart (5%), showcasing a mix of urban and coastal appeal.
International travel also saw a notable jump, with bookings increasing by 31%. Bali topped the list as the favorite destination for overseas escapes (17%), followed by Auckland (12%) and Tokyo (9%). Other popular destinations included Queenstown (5%), Christchurch (4%), and Bangkok (3%), alongside sunny favorites like Los Angeles, Fiji, and Wellington, all at 3%.
