FIJI CONTINUES to be one of Australia’s favourite holiday destinations. Here’s a roundup of new hotels and attractions planned for 2023 and beyond.

ACCOMMODATION

Waya Island Resort is a new adults-only resort set to debut in the Mamanuca Islands on November 1.

Nestled between Octopus Resort and Barefoot Kuata, this exclusive retreat promises a private and intimate experience, boasting 17 charming bures enveloped in natural beauty.

The resort presents two room categories, the deluxe garden bure and deluxe villa, with rates starting from FJD850 (approx. $AU570) for a deluxe garden bure.

Construction has commenced on a substantial FJ$230 million (approx. $AU155 million) expansion of the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa, known as the ‘Vatu Talei’ project or ‘The Jewel.’

Designed to maximise the four vacant hectares directly behind the resort, Vatu Talei promises a fusion of luxury, sustainability, cultural enrichment and gastronomic innovation.

Scheduled for a late 2026 debut, this new development will encompass 190 rooms and suites across three multi-level buildings, including nine and four-storey structures with rooftop pools and bars.

It will also incorporate a three level, low-rise tower, all surrounded by swimming pools, providing water views overlooking the existing hotel.

Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2026, the Radisson Blu Mirage Resort, Fiji Naisoso Island is poised to become a premier resort for travellers seeking a tranquil tropical getaway.

The 250-key resort will offer guests direct beachfront access from apartments that overlook the South Pacific Ocean. The new property will offer an array of leisure facilities, including three beachfront swimming pools, a gym and a kids’ club.

The F&B will include an all-day dining restaurant, a speciality restaurant, a swim-up pool bar and event spaces for up to 150 guests.

On an island off Taveuni, a solar-powered resort is being built by Silent Yachts. Nestled amid the jungle and sandy beaches, the emissions-free luxury resort will include an array of eco-conscious beachfront residences and an impressive fleet of zero-emission vessels.

Owners will have exclusive access to several of Silent’s solar-electric tenders, speedboats and catamarans. Residents will also have a complete run of the owners’ clubhouse, a bar and restaurant, a private beach club and a fully equipped health and wellness centre.

IHG is set to bring its flagship Crowne Plaza brand to Fiji for the first time following a major signing with Wailoaloa Hotel.

Opening in late 2023 following a multi-million-dollar refurbishment, the Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort & Spa will convert from its previous life as Pullman Nadi Bay.

The existing 324 rooms will be refreshed, with new two-bedroom family rooms and ocean facing king suites. The resort will also include a new day spa with six double treatment rooms and seven dining outlets including a lobby bar, whiskey bar, all-day dining restaurant, Italian restaurant, Beach Club and nightclub.
