CATO’s Christmas Lunch lived up to its reputation in Sydney yesterday afternoon. And, Brett Jardine, Managing Director of CATO has confirmed the annual event was the biggest ever held.
Speaking to a crowd of well over 420 people, Jardine pointed to a number of successes for the organisation in 2024, but there’s one that is particularly close to his heart.
“There is one activity that is that has captured the attention of many, And one that I’m personally very proud to be overseeing, and that is the roll out of the CATO Touring Academy officially launched on the first of July this year.”
“The CATO touring Academy offers a personalised learning journey where participants gain access to sector specific training modules, all designed to enhance their expertise in selling land based holidays. Our comprehensive curriculum covers everything from sector specific knowledge to a wide array of elective modules and a comprehensive library with brand training. All of this, culminating in a certification that demonstrates a commitment to excellence in our industry,” Jardine said.
The lunch also featured a Q and A with industry legend Graham ‘Skroo’ Turner’.
The conversation detailed the evolution of his touring business, starting in 1971 with 20 passengers paying £110 per trip.
The business expanded to 70 double-decker buses by 1980-81, offering tours through Europe and Asia.
He spoke of industry challenges ranging from political instability in the Middle East and the COVID-19 pandemic, which reduced income from £25-30 million to zero.
He said he was proud that his business emphasised fun and humility, with core values like egalitarianism.
Turner also discussed the importance of financial stability in the travel industry and the impact of government regulations.
Traveltalk’s own Santa was also on hand to assist in the delivery of dozens of prizes to the excited crowd.
