It’s not often that the captain of a ship is almost as famous as the vessel they sail, but that’s certainly the case for Kate McCue also known as Captain Kate, who has announced she is leaving Royal Caribbean after 22 years.
“Today, I say farewell to Celebrity.
“I’ve spent the last 22 years on 11 ships in the Royal Caribbean Group, from 2nd Officer to Captain. I have seen some of the most beautiful places, met inspiring and wonderful people, and had opportunities to live my 12 year-old dream out loud!” The Ocean celebrity said on Instagram.
She shared a video that she says serves as a “small glimpse into moments that I am forever grateful for.”
“It is memories of those who made an impact on this journey and who will live forever in my heart.”
McCue said recent “big life changes” are the reason behind her departure.
“Simply put, life has an incredible way of reminding us what’s important and changing up priorities. I’ve recently had some big life changes, and this just happens to be one of those.”
Kate says her sailing days are “absolutely not” over as she has “too much salt” in her veins to leave the sea behind.”
“So consider this…the start of the Captain’s Log: New Seasons!” She said.
Celebrity Cruises responded to the post saying ” The journey we have shared together has been absolutely amazing. You brought passion and heart to everything you did, inspiring so many along the way, and leaving a lasting mark on our industry. We wish you fair winds and following seas, always.”
