The San Francisco Travel Association recently announced that 154,000 visitors from  Australia are forecasted to arrive in 2024, marking a 24.5% increase from the previous year.  These travellers are expected to contribute an impressive $345 million to the local economy. Overall, San Francisco anticipates welcoming 23.22 million global visitors,  generating $9.24 billion in spending, despite a slight dip in hotel occupancy rates.  

Looking ahead to 2025, San Francisco Travel forecasts further growth in tourism and lodging, driven by a more robust convention calendar and increased international leisure travel. Visitor volume is projected to reach 23.9 million, with spending expected to approach $10 billion. The Moscone Center will host 29 major events, accounting for over  590,000 hotel room nights—a 30% increase compared to 2024.  

San Francisco is also gearing up to host major sporting events that will further elevate its international profile. The Laver Cup and NBA All-Star Game are both set to take place in  2025 and in 2026, the city will be a host for both the FIFA World Cup and the Super Bowl,  

solidifying its reputation as a premier destination for international sports events. These high-profile sports events are expected to attract thousands of global sports fans, further boosting the city’s economy, and enhancing its international profile.
