The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the family of the pilgrim.
“We send our deepest condolences to the family at this difficult time,” the statement said.
A Muslim Chaplain at Curtin University and the University of Western Australia, told ABC RN Breakfast that funeral prayers had been held for a man believed to be from Sydney.
“It is somebody who was elderly who sadly found his last moments seeking God,” he said.
The hundreds of deaths took place as record temperatures hit the region.
