A group of Australians are in critical condition in Fiji after reportedly consuming cocktails at the Warwick Resort on the Coral Coast.

Seven guests initially sought treatment at Sigatoka Hospital, experiencing symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and neurological distress.

Two were transferred to Lautoka Hospital as their conditions deteriorated.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) confirmed it is assisting two Australian families while issuing a travel advisory warning about drink spiking and methanol poisoning risks in Fiji.

Local police and health authorities are investigating the incident, which has drawn attention to the dangers of contaminated alcohol abroad.

A resort guest reported that his friend suffered severe seizures and foamed at the mouth after consuming a piña colada.

This suspected poisoning follows a tragic recent case where two young Australians died in Laos after consuming methanol-laced vodka.

DFAT’s Smart Traveller website now advises Australians travelling to Fiji to remain vigilant, seek urgent medical attention if drink spiking is suspected, and exercise caution when consuming alcoholic beverages.
