Opportunities for Development thru Art (ODA) has reached an important milestone this month with the acquisition of a brand-new Toyota minivan to transport students in rural Cambodia.
OneTomorrow, the charitable fund of APT Travel Group, has proudly supported ODA for many years and was delighted to provide funding for this vital vehicle. Previously, students endured uncomfortable commutes to school in the back of an open ute—particularly challenging during Cambodia’s intense monsoon rains.
Initially, ODA sought funding for a used van. However, with advice from a Toyota employee brought in by an ODA supporter, the charity was unexpectedly offered a brand-new 15-seater minivan at a significantly reduced price. This new vehicle not only ensures students travel safely and comfortably but also saves ODA an estimated $12,000 annually in maintenance costs. Recognising the opportunity, OneTomorrow quickly provided additional funding, and within a week, students enjoyed their first excursion in the new minivan.
The van will serve more than just school commutes. It enables weekend trips and Sunday picnics at local pagodas or lakes, enriching the lives of children born in remote Cambodian villages by expanding their educational and social experiences.
ODA Founder and CEO Leng expressed heartfelt gratitude, conveyed by volunteer Shirley Hawe:
“Leng never dreamt of a brand-new minibus and can’t quite believe what has come about. He sends huge thanks for your incredible support. OneTomorrow’s partnership means the world to ODA, helping to make a meaningful difference in these youngsters’ lives.”
