Have you ever heard of functional luxury? Well, A by Adina in Canberra’s CBD fits the bill perfectly.

Situated right next to City Hill, this apart-hotel provides all the comforts of home with a sophisticated, minimalist touch.

The lobby may be understated, but don’t let that fool you. This place is all about sleek simplicity, with modern décor that features polished concrete finishes and a rather striking concrete pillar in the living room and main bedroom – industrial chic at its best!

Our two-bedroom apartment on the second floor felt more like a home than a hotel room, equipped with everything you could possibly need for an extended stay.

Think of a full-sized dining table for four, a super comfy three-seater sofa, an additional chair and no fewer than three large TVs. And when it comes to entertainment, Adina has you covered. With a wide selection of complimentary movies, including the latest releases, plus Chromecast to stream your own content.

The floor-to-ceiling windows in both bedrooms looked out onto the City Hill area. Unfortunately for us, there was a bit of a view interruption courtesy of a building site next door – something the hotel’s website thoughtfully mentioned in advance.

The main bedroom was a standout, featuring a walk-through wardrobe that leads into an anteroom with a huge bath and vanity area, then through to a spacious bathroom complete with a large rainwater shower.

The second bedroom was equally roomy and the second bathroom was stocked with all the essentials: toilet, sink and another lovely shower.

Storage? Plenty of it in every room. Wi-Fi? Fast and free. Kitchen? Fully kitted out with a full-sized fridge, microwave, stove top, oven, washing machine and dryer – not to mention enough crockery and cooking equipment for a proper meal.

Though I have to admit, the stern note about the sensitivity of the smoke alarms and a potential fine for setting them off did put a bit of a damper on my culinary ambitions!

Daily servicing ensures the place stays immaculate and if you’re feeling active, the well-equipped gym in the lower basement will keep you fit during your stay. No pool here, but with all of Canberra at your doorstep, there’s plenty to explore.

The hotel doesn’t have its own restaurant, but no worries – our room included a $25 breakfast voucher per person for the trendy ARC Café next door.

Plus, guests can charge back meals to their rooms from several local eateries like Azima, Kota, Inka and the Meat & Wine Co. These restaurants will also provide room delivery for an extra fee.

The location is a major drawcard – right in the heart of Canberra city centre and just a stone’s throw from museums, theatres, shops and a fantastic range of dining options.

Whether you’re in town for business or planning an extended stay, A by Adina makes for an ideal base.

Families will appreciate the space and convenience of having a full kitchen and living area, while the central location means you’re never far from the action.

In short, Adina Canberra is proof that luxury doesn’t have to be extravagant: it can be functional, comfortable and right where you need it to be.
