Two world famous Australian landmarks are going to be united for the first time thanks to a new tour unveiled by the Tasmanian Walking Company.

The organisation has been given permission to launch a five-day guided walk through the Red Centre to unite Kata Tjuta and Uluru.

The tour has been developed in consultation with Anangu Traditional Owners, the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Board of Management and Parks Australia.

It represents the first time that visitors can stay overnight inside the World-Heritage listed Park in environmentally sustainable accommodation.

Small groups of up to 14 will spend five days and four nights inside Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, learning about ancient Anangu culture and history and connecting with nature.

It has taken Brett Godfrey, Tasmanian Walking Company co-owner and respected tourism leader, nine years to bring the 54km walk to market.

“This journey started in 2015 when I walked with Traditional Owners for 150 kilometres from the South Australian border to touch Uluru seven days later,” he said.

“It was one of my life’s great experiences and it made me want to share this cultural phenomenon sensitively with anyone prepared to tackle the desert and immerse themselves in Anangu history.

“In my view, it will attract an international market and become one of the great walks of the world.”

Launching in 2026, it will mark the second Northern Territory based walk operated by Tasmanian Walking Company, a company that has operated for the past 37 years.

“This walk has been a decade in development, but 500 million years in the making.”
