Who knew male lobsters have two penises? I discovered this curious fact during my wild seafood experience in Mandurah.

Our skipper on the Sea West Mandurah cruise shared it – somewhat sheepishly – saying the lobsters’ anatomy is so spiny and tricky that they need two to ensure getting “it in”.

It sounded a little too wild to believe, so I’m going to research this lobster fact myself. Meanwhile, I tried to push thoughts of lobster genitalia aside as I dug into the delicious giant bug I had just caught.

Being back in Perth after so long, I had forgotten how stunningly vast and bright everything is here. The sky and ocean seem extra big and the sunlight has this crazy brightness that makes everything pop.

I’m here for the World Travel and Tourism Summit, hosted by WA Tourism, and it’s the first time this global conference is being held in Australia. A perfect opportunity to showcase Western Australia’s natural beauty.

After experiencing the Wild Seafood Tour, I can say WA’s seafood lives up to the hype. I had never eaten something that was caught right in front of me – and by me, no less!

During the cruise, we retrieved lobster pots that had been sitting in the ocean for 24 hours. There was a collective moment of excitement (and slight tension) as we all watched the pots being hoisted out of the water, eager to see how many lobsters we’d caught.

After determining their size and gender (to ensure sustainability), the real highlight followed – the seafood feast. We moored in Mandurah’s beautiful canals, known as the “Venice of WA”.

The meal was seriously gourmet, starting with barramundi, followed by Sashimi, prawns, oysters and mussels. Then came the star of the show – perfectly cooked lobsters, fresh from the ocean, grilled on the boat’s BBQ.

We even wrapped things up with a homemade brownie, all paired with bottomless Howard Park premium wines and the finest WA beer!

At $379 per person, it’s not the cheapest experience, but I’d say it’s worth every cent. When you consider the incredible food, the hands-on experience and the beautiful setting, it’s one of the tastiest (and most unique) tours ever!
