Sentosa is an island located just south of Singapore city, home to many attractions including Universal Studios, Adventure Cove Water Park, S.E.A. Aquarium, the Sentosa Cable Car, SkyHelix, Mega Zip, Skyline Luge, Skypark Sentosa…the list goes on.
The Village Hotel is situated close to many of these attractions and provides a good base for exploring Sentosa.
The resort is large, featuring 606 rooms and encloses three sides of a square around four beautifully manicured and maintained swimming pools – a Lazy River Pool, Children’s PlayPool, Adventure Pool and the main Pamukkale Pool.
At the pool bar, guests can enjoy an unobstructed view of the sea and wonder at the stories behind the many ships at anchor. During our visit, the multiple pools meant that there was plenty of space to swim, although we did have trouble finding an available poolside seat.
Family rooms come with plenty of activities for kids.
Rooms feature pool, sea or island views and while compact, are thoughtfully designed. There are plenty of electrical outlets accepting multi country plugs, a filtered drinking water tap, smart toilets (Japanese Toto) and a generous provision of bathroom accessories. Village hubs on each floor provide easy access to ice machines and tea and coffee facilities.
The gym (8am to 10pm) is small but provides the essential equipment for a workout. The hotel has one restaurant, Native Kitchen, which serves predominantly local food but also provides some standard western dishes. We tried the fish curry, stir fried noodles and satay. The breakfast buffet caters to a range of tastes, providing Asian and Western staples.
What really made the Village Hotel stand out is its treatment of kids. Children of guests who have booked a family room are afforded the ‘Village Important Kids (VIK)’ treatment. A special child-friendly VIK priority check-in counter is available, giving children the opportunity to ‘take charge’ and check-in on behalf of the family.
To complement the in-room amenities for adults, each family room includes a kids welcome kit customised to the little guests’ age and gender. The kit includes amenities such as bath toys for babies and infants, as well as child-friendly toiletries.
The resort is expansive and wraps around three sides of the aforementioned pools.
The Mini Hotelier Experience nurtures the little ones’ imagination and creativity via various experiences, from being a Mini Artist, Mini Housekeeper, Mini Engineer to a Mini Chef, allowing them to learn through play, develop new skills, express ideas, build relationships with others and give the parents some well-earned time out. There are also Village ‘Playtivities’ ranging from sand art, family scavenger hunts, movie screenings and more.
Getting around Sentosa is also very easy, with a complimentary shuttle bus stopping right at the Village Hotel’s door.
That said, many attractions are within walking distance. As of April 2023, there is a lot of construction in progress in the area which made it difficult to navigate on foot but of course, this will only be temporary and is likely to create a much more user-friendly passage.
There is a fee to enter Sentosa which is waived for people staying in the hotels, but you will need to show your confirmation when arriving on the island.
Village Hotel Sentosa is a comfortable and convenient spot to stay whilst on the island. We would particularly recommend it for families with young children.
