Five Aussie tour operators have made the trip to France to attend one of the country’s leading trade shows.
The Destination Montagnes event was attended by more than 1,000 tourism professionals in Chambéry and saw more than 10,000 meetings take place.
Some 223 French companies used the 33rd edition of the show to showcase the diversity of the tourist offerings in the French mountain ranges to more than 430 tour operators from 59 countries.
Destination Montagnes was also an opportunity for tour operators to experience the world’s first ski area: 27 resorts and destinations have mobilised to host tour operators on familiarisation tours before and/or after the exhibition, allowing them to discover their tourism potential.
The Aussie contingent included Joshua Wolfe from Skimax, Mason Collins from Sno’n’Ski Holidays, Jennifer Moss from Snowcapped Tours, Tennille Southcombe from Snow Life Tours and Jason Grondman from Mogul Ski World.
The group met with French suppliers from mountains, ski and snow tourism organisations and also enjoyed pre-show famils in Méribel and Val Thorens before a post-tour in Val d’Isere.
France ranks as the number two ski destination in the world with 250 resorts spread across six mountain ranges offering 27,000 hectares of slopes.
The country welcomes 10 million tourists in winter with seven million of those engaging in winter sports.
